Bychkov and the Berliners Play Schoenberg / Bychkov et les Berlinois jouent Schönberg

Some glorious string playing as only the Berliners can do it. Bychkov continues to grow in stature in the concert hall and in the opera house. Early in his career he made his mark as music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic but has spent most of his time in Europe in recent years. He will soon lead the Vienna Philharmonic on a tour of North America culminating in a concert at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto on March 6. Personnes jouent les cordes aussi bien que les Berlinois. Bychkov continue de gagner de l’importance dans les salles de concert et les opéras. Plus tôt dans sa carrière, il a fait sa marque comme directeur musical de l’Orchestre philharmonique de Buffalo et maintenant, il dirige en Europe.   • Lovely, yet very different from Karajan's with the same Berlin forces, issued as LP on Deutsche Grammophon around 1974 - my desert island disc! Bychkov is more idiosyncratic here while Karajan's is so smooth....
