In this excerpt from the DVD titled Guarneri String Quartet plays Beethoven, the venerable American string quartet performs the first movement of Beethoven's String Quartet in F minor, Op. 95, "Quartetto Serioso". The video was taped in 1986 and includes two Beethoven quartets, "Quartetto serioso" and No. 9 in C Major, Op. 59, No. 3, "Rasumovsky".

Founded in 1964 at the Marlboro Music Festival by first violinist Arnold Steinhardt, the Guarneri String Quartet retired last year, marking the end of the group's 45-year history with only one personnel change: founding cellist David Soyer, featured in this video, left in 2001. He was replaced by Peter Wiley. John Dalley is the group's second violinist and Michael Tree the violist.
