Nashville Symphony Grand Hall Re-opening / Le Nashville Symphony de retour au Schermerhorn Symphony Center

Nashville's Schermerhorn Symphony Center opened to great acclaim in 2006. It was the new home of the Nashville Symphony and it featured design and acoustics modelled after the Musikverein in Vienna. But then disaster struck in the form of a devastating flood. In 2010 more than 13 inches of rain fell in two days and the Cumberland River overflowed in all directions. Hard hit was the center of Nashville. The basement of the Schermerhorn was flooded and instruments and other precious possessions were ruined. The concert hall itself was not flooded but the building could not be used until major repairs were completed. After months of hard work the flood damage has been repaired and the hall will be re-opened with a Gala concert on December 31. Here is a promotional video for that eagerly-anticipated event.

Le Schermerhorn Symphony Center à Nashville a ouvert ses portes en 2006 avec les plus grands éloges. La nouvelle salle de concert du Nashville Symphony fut inspirée par le style et les acoustiques du Musikverein à Vienne. Mais, la salle fut victime de sévères inondations. En 2010, plus de 33 centimètres de pluie sont tombés en deux jours et la rivière Cumberland a débordé de son lit dans toutes les directions. Le centre-ville de Nashville fut inondé. L’eau n’a pas pénétré l’auditorium, mais le Nashville Symphony n’a pas pu se servir de la salle jusqu’à l’achèvement des rénovations.
