Fine Arts Quartet still going strong 64 years later / Le Fine Arts String Quartet à 64 ans

The Fine Arts Quartet, considred one of the most distinguished ensembles in chamber music today, has recorded more than 200 works, 75 of them with three of the quartet's current members, violinists Ralph Evans, Efim Boico and cellist Wolfgang Laufer, who have been performing together for more than a quarter of a century. Violist Nicolò Eugelmi joined the quartet in 2009.


In 2008, the quartet, with then violist Chauncey Patterson, recorded three Beethoven string quintets for Naxos with violist Gil Sharon. In this video, you can see the players rehearse the fourth movement of Quintet Op.104 at the Wittem Monastery Library in Holland.


Founded in Chicago in 1946 and based at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee since 1963, the Fine Arts Quartet will team up with rising pianist Xiayin Wan at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York on Nov. 23 in Schumann's Piano Quintet, Franck's Piano Quintet and Earl Wild's Piano Sonata (2000).

Le Fine Arts String Quartet, considéré comme l’un des ensembles de musique de chambre les plus éminents, a enregistré plus de 200 pièces, dont 75 avec trois des membres originaux du groupe; Ralph Evans (violon), Efim Boico (violon) et Wolfgang Laufer (violoncelle) qui jouent ensemble depuis plus de vingt-cinq ans. Le violoniste Nicolò Eugelmi s’est joint au groupe en 2009.


En 2008, l’ensemble avec le violiste original du groupe Chauncey Patterson a enregistré 3 Quatuors à cordes de Beethoven pour Naxos accompagné du violiste Gil Sharon. Dans ce vidéoclip, les musiciens répètent le quatrième mouvement du Quintette opus 104 à la bibliothèque du monastère Wittem aux Pays-Bas.


Fondé en 1946 et basé à  l’Université du Wisconsin à Milwaukee depuis 1963, le Fine Arts Quartet se joindra à l’étoile montante du piano Xiayin Wan au Alice Tully Hall duLincoln Center le 23 novembre prochain. Ils interpréteront le Quintette pour piano de Schumann, le Quintette pour piano de Franck et la Sonate pour piano d’Earl Wild.
