Yannick Nézet-Séguin Conducts Ravel’s La Valse / Yannick Nézet-Séguin dirige La Valse de Ravel

YNS has just been appointed as the next music director of the Philadelphia Orchestra. But he is so heavily booked in the next few years Philadelphia won't see much of him beyond a week here and a week there until 2012. In the meantime he will continue his commitments to the Orchestre Metropolitain and to the Rotterdam Philharmonic. He is music director of both orchestras. But in 2012 if not before YNS will have some difficult decisions to make. He certainly can't be music director of all three orchestras, even with his considerable energy. I suspect that he will gradually withdraw from Montreal while keeping his job in Holland. And don't forget that he is also principal guest conductor of the London Philharmonic, and now a regular at the Met in New York. 

Earlier this season YNS toured North America leading the Rotterdam Philharmonic. It is an excellent orchestra. Here they are together in an excerpt from Ravel's La Valse. YNS knows the secret of keeping the music moving forward without sacrificing any of the delicious details of this glorious piece.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin vient d’être nommé directeur musical de l’Orchestre de Philadelphie. Mais, il sera tellement occupé au cours des prochaines années qu’il ne pourra se produire à Philadelphie que pour quelques semaines ici et là jusqu’en 2012. En attendant, il va continuer d’exercer ses fonctions avec l’Orchestre Métropolitain et l’Orchestre philharmonique de Rotterdam où il est directeur musical de ces orchestres. Mais en 2012, ou même avant, il aura à prendre des décisions difficiles. Il ne peut certainement pas être directeur musical de ces trois orchestres, même avec son énergie considérable. Je crois qu’il va se retirer graduellement de l’Orchestre montréalais tout en conservant son poste avec l’Orchestre néerlandais. Il ne faut pas oublier qu’il est premier chef invité de l’Orchestre philharmonique de Londres et en plus d’apparaître régulièrement au Met à New York. 

Plus tôt cette saison, Yannick Nézet-Séguin a parcouru l’Amérique du Nord avec l’Orchestre philharmonique de Rotterdam. C’est un excellent orchestre. Les voici ensemble dans un extrait de La Valse de Ravel. Il connaît le secret pour faire avancer la musique sans sacrifier les détails les plus fins de cette merveilleuse pièce.
