Bernard Haitink Conducting Master Class / Bernard Haitink dirige un atelier de maître

At the age of 81, Dutch conductor Bernard Haitink is universally recognized as one of the supreme masters of his profession. He recently conducted a three week Beethoven cycle with the Chicago Symphony, his final concerts as the orchestra's principal conductor, and he shows no signs of slowing down.

In this video he is shown working with young conductors on Brahms' Third Symphony. Haitink is characteristically self-deprecating while offering numerous examples of how to conduct this music. He is obviously a fine teacher too.

À 81 ans, le chef d’orchestre néerlandais Bernard Haitink est universellement reconnu comme l’un des maîtres suprêmes de sa profession. Il a récemment dirigé un festival de trois semaines dédié à la musique de Beethoven avec l’Orchestre symphonique de Chicago qui était ses derniers concerts en tant que premier chef d’orchestre de l’OSC, mais il ne montre aucun signe de vouloir ralentir.   

Dans ce vidéoclip, il travaille avec de jeunes chefs d’orchestre sur la Symphonie no 3 de Brahms. Il est plein d’autodérision comme à son habitude tout en présentant de nombreux exemples qui montrent comment diriger cette musique. Il est évidemment un excellent chef d’orchestre aussi.
