In this live recording, circa 1990, of the Rondo: Allegro from Beethoven's Cello Sonata No. 2, Op. 5 in G Minor, a much younger Yo-Yo Ma and recital partner Emanuel Ax demonstrate flawless techniques with abundant humour to boot. Just watch the page turner's facial expression and you'll see what I mean. The quality of the image is poor, however, you'll still be able to see beads of sweat trickle down Ma's face.

If you are lucky enough to be in New York City this week, catch Ma and Ax in a Schumann-Chopin program at Carnegie Hall Friday, Jan. 29.

Dans cet enregistrement en direct (vers 1990) du Rondo Allegro de la Sonate pour violoncelle n° 2 en sol mineur, op. 5 de Beethoven, un beaucoup plus jeune Yo-Yo Ma et son partenaire de récital Emanuel Ax démontrent leurs techniques impeccables. De plus, ils s’amusent beaucoup. Vous n’avez qu’à regarder les expressions faciales de la tourneuse de pages pour voir ce que je veux dire. L’image est de mauvaise qualité, mais vous allez pouvoir tout de même observer les goûtes de sueur qui dégoulinent du front de Yo-Yo Ma.  

Si vous avez l’occasion d’être à New York cette semaine, ne manquez pas Yo-Yo Ma et Emanuel Ax dans la programmation Schumann-Chopin au Carnegie Hall le vendredi 29 janvier.
