Johannes Moser and Phyllis Chen Sounding Off

German-Canadian cellist Johannes Moser, who dazzled Toronto audience in Haydn's C-Major Cello Concerto with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra last spring, is teaming up with performance artist Phyllis Chen to embark on an experimental project called the Sounding Off tour this month.

While Moser has established himself as an international cello soloist, Chen is best known for her quirkiness on toy pianos, electronics, and the piano. Together, they will perform a series of works ranging from standard classical works to Stockhausen and new compositions on U.S. college campuses during a two-week period. They will use a combination of traditional cello, electric cello, traditional piano, prepared piano and toy piano to show how new trends in modern music can influence classical music performance and presentation today.
